AORN Global Surgical Conference & Expo 2020:
COVID-19 / Novel Coronavirus Travel Considerations
We understand concerns about COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) are top-of-mind for our members, associates, and partners who plan to attend the Global Surgical Conference & Expo in Anaheim next month. As a nursing organization, we want to emphasize the value and importance of everyday prevention practices during travel as recommended by the CDC.
Please note, the CDC does not recommend that travelers wear masks to protect themselves from the coronavirus. You may choose to wear a mask, but it is more important that you follow these everyday prevention practices.
AORN is committed to the health, safety and well-being of all attendees and wishes to assure you of the following:
- The Anaheim Convention Center will:
- Clean and wipe touch points with increased frequency.
- Post signage in restrooms to recommend hand washing and covering of mouths and noses when sneezing.
- Convention center staff will do their part by washing hands frequently, covering their cough or sneeze, and not reporting to work if feeling ill.
- In addition, the convention center has issued a news release to advise visitors of its efforts.
Orange County has proactively declared a local emergency, and a local health emergency, to prepare for COVID-19. These declarations are not because of a belief the public is in danger — a formal declaration is a necessary first step that enables the county to mobilize the resources needed to prevent, monitor for, and combat any possible outbreak.
AORN is in contact with our contracted hotels about their protocols and disinfection procedures.
The Department of Homeland Security has issued instructions for inbound flights carrying individuals from China. The delegation from China has chosen not to attend Expo this year, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
AORN has had no major exhibit cancellations with the exception of manufacturers from China.
Ultimately, we encourage everyone to make responsible decisions and stay home if they are sick. The AORN Meetings Team, in collaboration with the California Department of Health and the Anaheim Convention Center, has dedicated resources to provide quick responses to inquiries related to COVID-19.
Attendees and exhibitors with questions or concerns are encouraged to email our Experience Services team.
Please remember AORN has created and provides frequent updates to the coronavirus tool kit which can be easily accessed from aorn.org
